Trying to Get Home

A half-way house for the weary Kindred, this old tavern is set back off the road in its own grounds, in the heart of the countryside. Nominally still in Reading's catchment area, and thus sanctuary, this beautiful ivy-climbed cottage is Kindred-friendly (and Kindred approved!). It is a sprawling barn conversion with twenty light-tight quaint rooms, two wings and a central lounge area overlooked by the balcony of the story above. There are small parlours and a library. Outside, a split carriage path winds around a wishing well, leading to the stables and the apple orchid at the back. Beyond the orchid, is a dark forest. No one knows how the cottage stays clean.

“We have been introduced Ancile Stoker? The fact that you do not recall causes me great insult. Am I so beneath your notice?” Lucius lets the question hang as he takes a seat and another mouthfull of wine.

“As I remember you petitioned me to make inquiries to meet the Venture Justicar to request being an archon. You know, after you killed his last one? Don’t you recall?” Lucius makes a face as though he had just encountered something quite ridiculous.

Valentina smiles at Lucius, standing briefly to give him a small curtsey (nothing like as low as the one she seems to reserve for Uriah).

"Good Evening Elder Lucius" she murmurs politely.

sitting back down she watches the unfolding drama with a small smile.

So Ancilla Stoker wanted to be an Archon did he? Well, it matched what she knew of his ambition she supposed. Oh and he was Jackdaw's killer to boot? Well, not that she cared especially, but Dyo might be interested and it saved her paying homage to Christine to find out.
Only proper in public darling...

At the entry of the Elder Ventrue Uriah's aura reflexively flares. Just for a moment before it returns to its usual careful control. He looks about to speak when Lucius and Laurence exchange introductions, and more.
He doesn't move, doesn't sit up or exclaim. Instead speaking easily from his recline upon the chair.
"And greetings to you Elder. Yes a queer evening indeed that should bring such a varied collection of Kindred to such an unassuming tavern. I have no doubt you have a story of travel as much of the rest of us though I am more interested in hearing about the dead men's shoes that are being filled. Who else knows about this death of an Archon then?"
Uriah swings his gaze about the room with a welcoming expression. Not threatening at all.

Lucius smiles warmly at the methislia Uriah. “A true pleasure Prince Uriah, thank you for your warm words. A varied collection of kindred is a perfect descriptive of our company, and I would have it no other way.”

Returning to his friend Valentina. “Good evening to you too Miss Audley. A true pleasure to see you again. I confess I use the warmth of my greeting disguise the apology, that I am all out of wine, and so cannot offer you a glass.”

“As too the truth that the ancile is the killer of Archon Jackdoor, I have heard that Mr Stoker was involved in the defence of prince Erika, that without the ancilla the prince may well have been layed low by those turncoats. It speaks well of ancilla Stoker that he would choose to step into such a conflict with little knowledge of who was manipulating whom. A true sectarian.” Lucius raises his glass in salute before finishing off the last of his wine.

“Ambition is all well and good in the New World but I don’t envy those poor Courts. I give many a thought to our Kindred in the west, battling the disgusting impact that the Blackguard has on our world.” Daciana sniffs. “Our Gangrel and Brujah do so very well to pioneer such movements. Good on them. It paves the way for other Clans. But ultimately theirs are best suited to holding large and oft-barren territories, full of verdant tree life perhaps but less full of mortals.”

“Oooh, and Paris - and Venice!” Daciana excites, animated. “I have been to both and attest to the romantic splendour of each.”

The Toreador looks able to launch into a monologue on that, but is swiftly interrupted by a newcomer entering the room.

“No intrusion darling,” she adds to the echo of voices, quite bemused. “But if you’d like people to know who you are, it’s best to introduce yourself - and perhaps to those who are not just the Ancilla in this room.”

“I am Elder Daciana of Clan Toreador.” She had to presume he was Toreador himself, for the way he at least held himself. And a lack of introductions and titles was unlikely for a Ventrue. He had already made it clear he wasn’t a Tremere... but perhaps an unusual Brujah? No. She was betting on Toreador.

However that’s all scattered in her brain when someone brings up the subject of an Archon death. “Beg parson? An archon was slain? Illegally or...?”

She sits through the explanation, and relaxes a little. “Oh that. It’s the talk of Bristol currently, and the new Justicar handover. But it wasn’t this Ancilla here who killed Jackdaw - it was Leroux who the Prestation owed passed to, and she thus whom clearly landed the killing blow.”

Niketas nods at the newcomer.
"Elder Lucius Caecelius Servius, well met. "
He cringes, fraction of a second, at another fence related critique. Relaxing as the elder's attention moves elsewhere.
"Ah yes, I had heard of Elder Jackdaw's passing. He owed me significant debt, I suppose our Prince is the caretaker for it now...
He pauses, moving beads in his mind.
"I wonder, has his property been reviewed and dispersed? It wouldn't do for kine to come across it, not at all. If the Prince has not done so, I must assume his clanmates or I will need to snip that loose end promptly."

At the entrance of Lucius, Grace has a moment of silence after which her earlier careful smile returns.

She listens and waits suddenly incredibly focused on the conversation, a nod of approval at Laurence's bow and his words of the New World. A slightly quieter fond smile meant for Laurence escapes her after he speaks of the fire.

"Elder Servius, how pleasant,"
"Ancillia Stoker has, and continues to, provide his assistance in defence of our Prince. Just as we all serve, where we are able to."

"Elder Dukes, yes I believe the former Arcon Jackdaw owed a great many people."

As Lucius enters Keane looks up with a blank expression on his face. His aura on the other hand takes on a sort of static quality of discomfort. He doesn't get involved in the conversation around the attempted praxis seizure. It had already been the hot topic of what part of the Lupercalia celebration had been for court politic. In fact he intimately aware of it given his new title.
"Oh, yes, Sheriff Dukes. I believe that responsibility falls upon myself. The reclaiming of clan property. That is, if Prince Eric hasn't laid any claim to spoils as of yet. I suppose." He gives a sort of perplexed expression. "I was not particularly intimately familiar with Jackdaw before he, um, made some poor decisions. I would be most appreciative of any assistance you could give me in snipping that thread as you put it."

Ignoring everything else, and in a very low, dangerous voice Daciana says,

“I’m sorry but nobody has actually introduced the elder yet to me - it’s terribly poor form if you all know him, but refuse to give credit to common etiquette. It is what keeps our society alive, sweetlings.” The last is practically hissed.

“Just throwing somebody’s name out to the void - or perhaps to the ceiling, or the walls willy nilly? - is not an appropriate way to introduce one elder to another elder.” To Dukes, “This is not your chantry, dear, and nobody likes a foozler, although there are plenty enough Ancilla in here who should have made the introduction, so you cannot be held to that.”

She rounds on said Ancilla, conveniently letting her furious gaze skip any Toreador present in that heat. “We do not hornswaggle elders in this sect darlings, and you are at least old enough to know better. Nor are you a flock of neonates having a glass in some rundown bar, gesturing loosely to some comrade whose swaggered in. Who is this, and why am I, an esteemed Elder of this sect, not being given credit due my station for a proper introduction - or is this other elder not to be given his own? Somebody, please. Do the honours - a direct introduction. Apparently you all know each other so it should be jolly easy.”

"Of course. Elder Daciana, this is Elder Servius of clan Ventrue."
The Sheriff gestures to Daciana, dipping his head.
"Elder Lucius, this is Elder Daciana of clan Toreador. A sectarian of pedigree and keen social instruction."
He steps back to allow the elders to speak.
"Elder Keane. I can furnish you with the relevant details on Jackdaw's registered haven. The Prince may show an interest in his assets, but as long as the traditions are obeyed this is ultimate!y a matter between you and he-him."
