“Yes absolutely, I’d like that,” Anton enthuses to Keane as realistically as he can, putting aside his melancholy slip, for the time being. “I’d hate to embarrass the Clan. It’s so difficult to do as it is - what with the comparison for where the bar of standard is.”
“As for Clans in a Court... I agree with my Primogen here.”
Anton’s mouth contorts and he tries to leave it at that. He really does. But a hot knot of anger and disgust tightens in his stomach and lodges a painful lump in his throat; within seconds he’s said:
“Except -“
“I wouldn’t put a Clan prone to vicious military impatience, random lethal outburst and degradation of base integrity at the seat of a role that, really, requires the opposite. You know, a calm head to operate well. In essence, I wouldn’t give an abuser power to abuse an entire domain. If the Brujah even had to have a role, it’s best that it’s a role closely monitored by another, who can actually control them. Like the Ventrue.”
“I’d change only that: Ventrue for Sheriff. And maybe not a Malkavian for Prince. But definitely Ventrue for Sheriff. They do like to take on the “burden of responsibility”, but quite genuinely you know, which means they’re unlikely to scapegoat blame and try to play dirty buggers at the expense of the domain just to avoid responsibility. Not that the Brujah would do that, I just don’t think they’re fit to be Sheriffs. It’s like loading a gun and hoping the trigger doesn’t go off without a safety when you stuff it down your trousers. At some point, it’s going to go off. And a lot likelier than with any other Clan. When it does go off, you don’t want it to have right of Destruction of anybody in that city.”
“That’s actually why I would never say a Malkavian should be Sheriff either.”
Day 29. I really don't like Methuselah.
