Trying to Get Home

A half-way house for the weary Kindred, this old tavern is set back off the road in its own grounds, in the heart of the countryside. Nominally still in Reading's catchment area, and thus sanctuary, this beautiful ivy-climbed cottage is Kindred-friendly (and Kindred approved!). It is a sprawling barn conversion with twenty light-tight quaint rooms, two wings and a central lounge area overlooked by the balcony of the story above. There are small parlours and a library. Outside, a split carriage path winds around a wishing well, leading to the stables and the apple orchid at the back. Beyond the orchid, is a dark forest. No one knows how the cottage stays clean.

Uriah's eyes narrow ever so slightly,
"A shrewd responce if not a particularly satisfactory one."
The smile remains unchanged, while he has ducked the first question the discomfort oozing from this one is a delight.

"But then, you said you attended my little Soirée last night only to leave almost immediately. Please don't say it wasn't to your liking, I would be most wounded!"
The mock hurt in his voice couldn't be any hammier if it had trotters on but the obvious trap was there for Anton to throw himself into.

Anton internally apologised to all Malkavians everywhere when he said, "Ummm actually! Toreador should obviously hold Prince position. We can't always get the best but naturally, that's it. Same with all the other positions. Toreador full house. A bit of diversity is good but not in this case."

He figured, Dukes and Keane wouldn't give him as hard a time for saying that, than the Toreador unknowns present would for selecting a Low Clan.

He hoped this meant he wouldn't have to answer the other question.

Uriah rolls his eyes in such a terrifically mock fashion.
"Yes, how terribly droll. Aren't Toreador the most wonderful thing in the world until we leave the room."
His gaze turns cold upon Anton,
"Very well, though I wonder how sire will take to the news you disagree with her appointment so thoroughly. You are not quite so witty as you believe you are, Neonate, and the next time I host a gathering I shall be expecting your attendance. Dalliances outside of England or otherwise."
Uriah lifts his attention from Anton easy, careless expression upon his face. Surprisingly though, his Aura did not shift even slightly the entire time.

"Actually, my Sire knows I think she shouldn't be Prince. It'll definitely get her killed."

Innocent eyes fix on those lapels again. At the mention of his expected presence, though, Anton genuinely winces.

"Yes, your Majesty," he says in a small, disheartened voice.

"Interesting," Niketas chirrups, "to the neonate's credit, I rather gave the same answer just he arrived, though I also gave good reason. Not to the duties of Prince specifically, but I struggle to see any better than the Rose for Sheriff or Harpy. I had altered the question to pick each clan in turn, starting with my own, and discuss what skills make them suited for a specific position, but..."

He squints, suppressing an eye-roll.

"... the answers which arose in response were somewhat guarded."

He shrugs.

"Prince, Seneschal, Keeper, Sheriff, Scourge, Harpy. Six positions in a single court, seven clans of the Camarilla. Each clan has a position, if no position counts. Does anyone have thoughts on the ideal court, each clan only getting one role?"

"Quite right, Anton." Keane trills, "And when you go I will accompany you to make sure you don't embarrass the clan or anything like that." He tries to hide the pleading look he gives Anton but isn't as versed as a Toreador at that kind of thing.
He looks over at Dukes when he suggests the new round, glad if the distraction but not of its format.

"Um, okay, if those are the rules and we have to pick one each."
He thinks for a few moments before responding.
"Well I think the Toreador makes best choice of Harpy as was discussed, for a variety of reasons. I would choose a Gangrel for Scourge and Brujah for the sheriff. I think they are best suited for the roles. For keeper a Tremere because they can do all sorts of protective magic things I suppose. I think the Nosferatu would be best as a seneschal to provide all sorts of secrets and knowledge. For prince I pick Malkavian. Because I want to." a slightly smug look, a moments thought. "Though it would have to be the right one for that. Not all of us are well versed to such a task."
He shrugs, hopefully no one here would question the rather obvious ommison.

Jean-Jacques posture remains embedded in the seat back, though his aura flushes as the hitherto grey fog which centres it courses a crimson shade as anton enters and takes a seat across from him.

His eyes rest on Daciana, appraising the unknown elder, but avoiding eye contact, he nevertheless ensures she knows he was looking.

The colours recede and as Dukes responds he glances toward the sheriff and his aura betrays a sense of annoyance, colours jerking over the surface.

As, next to him Keane offers his response, he amuses himself with an internal to and fro..

“The Ventrue what on this earth would they do with their nights, with no seat of power?, <laughter> that would elicit a struggle in and of itself from such as those that covet such”

...only he said it out loud...

“Yes absolutely, I’d like that,” Anton enthuses to Keane as realistically as he can, putting aside his melancholy slip, for the time being. “I’d hate to embarrass the Clan. It’s so difficult to do as it is - what with the comparison for where the bar of standard is.”

“As for Clans in a Court... I agree with my Primogen here.”

Anton’s mouth contorts and he tries to leave it at that. He really does. But a hot knot of anger and disgust tightens in his stomach and lodges a painful lump in his throat; within seconds he’s said:

Except -“

“I wouldn’t put a Clan prone to vicious military impatience, random lethal outburst and degradation of base integrity at the seat of a role that, really, requires the opposite. You know, a calm head to operate well. In essence, I wouldn’t give an abuser power to abuse an entire domain. If the Brujah even had to have a role, it’s best that it’s a role closely monitored by another, who can actually control them. Like the Ventrue.”

“I’d change only that: Ventrue for Sheriff. And maybe not a Malkavian for Prince. But definitely Ventrue for Sheriff. They do like to take on the “burden of responsibility”, but quite genuinely you know, which means they’re unlikely to scapegoat blame and try to play dirty buggers at the expense of the domain just to avoid responsibility. Not that the Brujah would do that, I just don’t think they’re fit to be Sheriffs. It’s like loading a gun and hoping the trigger doesn’t go off without a safety when you stuff it down your trousers. At some point, it’s going to go off. And a lot likelier than with any other Clan. When it does go off, you don’t want it to have right of Destruction of anybody in that city.”

“That’s actually why I would never say a Malkavian should be Sheriff either.”

Grace regards Anton,
"And yet in a room of four 'loaded guns' you see fit to say all that you have just said. We can't be all that dangerous for you, neonate, to have the confidence to run your mouth again in my presense. Elder Keane, your Child is in need of education."
She smiles to the room

Alot of elder ego games as always, at least there is interesting conversation tuis time to distract from it somewhat, and seemingly another to rival Jean-Jacques and Laurence in bad word choices.

"You see, Ant was it? I completely disagree with your thoughts as to Sheriff. In these modern nights, woth their potential abilities, i believe Malkavians would offer the best choice as Sheriff for protecting against and dealing with potential breaches. If they require something more physical to deal with a situation they are unable to, well that is what a deputy would be for surely?

As i have stated earlier, Princes need to be from a clan that matches the domain. Keeper is perhaps best left to clan Toreador if you wish for an entertaining atmosphere, Ventrue if you wish for more of a serious place for discussions. For harpy, the Nosferatu. Their skills are highly suited in information gathering and containing. Scourge, Gangrel are the obvious choice. And senechal is of course best left to the Prince to decide who will best work at their side."
