Darkness wakes and stirs imagination

Be it The Theatre Royal, The Ceryneian Theatre, or any of the smaller establishments serving to entertain the good people of Bath, here lies the feeling of sanctuary - of focus - and a tremble in the ether as the curtains rise, the music begins. Women touch themselves up - cosmetically - and their features glow and gleam: mouths like scimitars in claret, plum, sienna, smokily shadowed eyes with diamond hints and sapphire glints. Candle flames paint flickering reflections across the crystal chandeliers. Inside a Theatre is something pure, something beyond the Beast, immortalised in story and dance, the hard-won result of all the satirically polite personas, the rehearsals, the strict agents, the money and fame, the spotlights, the sweat, the pain and the blisters, the heartache and a final real catch-of-breath victory. Here is the playground of the performers.

As the others are speaking Lucius moves from absentmindedly examining the wands to noting the titles of the books on the shelves. Without turning to face the rest of the kindred in the room he speaks.

“I have no care for the word, deed and minds of mortals. Far less for those who defile and bastardise history to myth and myth to fiction. Those kindred I should wish to meet are either unknown to me or far too dangerous to risk meeting. Therefore, I have no answer to give you for this question.”

“I will propose a new question. Considering the court of Aquaesulis, who do you believe you know the least about? Which kindred is the most a mystery to you in their deeds, words and behaviours?”

Jean-Jacques listens as names are revealed, who was O’Carolan? And for that matter Goya, he sounded interesting though, and the Grimm brother, yes that would be intriguing....

..... François-Marie Arouet, no that’s too obvious

oh come on Lorcan....those days are past now...and in the past they shall remain...

Then Lucius responds...

Yes....that’s it, well said

... no le gusta caminar.... no puede montar a caballo... como se puede bailar? ... es un escandolo....

Christine refocuses abruptly at the question, ponders it for a moment and then bursts out laughing so hard she nearly slides off her chair.

"...Christine Daye...." she gasps, before falling about with laughter again.

The new question was interesting but hard to answer. Truly anyone of a higher standing - which meant almost all of the court - was a mystery to her. That included those in the room with her. There were only two people she felt she understood, and even that was through abnormal means.

She settled back onto the couch a little more, trying to think of an acceptable answer, while still admiring everything in the room. "Miss Taylor. Though she hasn't attended court in some time." She decided this was a safe answer, and smiled to herself.

At Angelina's words, Rhona couldn't help her lips twitching into a little smile. She had been tempted to say that name herself, but quite possibly for reasons rather different to the other girl's. Instead, she thought hard for a moment, leaning back in a leisurely fashion, enjoying the comfort of the room as she cast her mind over the denizens of the court.

"Elder Keane." she said after a few moments. She absently wondered whether the elder in question's offer was still on the table...it was one of the only things that gave her reason to lament the fact the moot was going to take up so much of her time very soon.

"We started a conversation at Eve a little while ago, and I enjoyed listening to him speak greatly. Of course, it was a very busy night and there were many of us there at the time." she smiled.

There's a soft laugh from a dark corner.

"Oh my darlings, I had such hopes that at least one of you would name me. Is your Prince truly that transparent?"

Erika moves out of the shadows. Tonight she wears the face of dangerously beautiful androgyny.

"Please don't mind me, I was intrigued by the answers. Games such as these can ...open doors that one had previously thought locked and most thoroughly barred."

There's a glance towards Christine, albeit brief.

"Please continue. There will be no repercussions from me. Not here."
She is the sunlight of my sunless nights.

oh merde!

Jean-Jacques had been casually listening to the varying responses to Lucius’ question and deciding just how much smoke and mirrors was being portrayed ...then the Prince appeared out of the shadows.

His only previous experience of being unreleased was in Strasbourg where his sire, Jean Buridan, was the Prince, his face looked even more ashen than usual.......

What on earth am I supposed to do...am I even supposed to be here...oh well, supposed or not I am so there’s nothing to do...merde!

He bows towards The Prince, clearly trying to buy himself time

....did she invite a response even....still I have to do something..... am I even accepted in this domain?

Still bowed...

‘Your highness, I find myself at your mercy given my alteration of circumstances.....”

He pauses and continues with a nervous crack to his voice

“It is my understanding that I am once more ... unreleased and under the direction of Ancilla Granville currently”

The dreams in which I'm dying..... are the best I've ever had

Lucius glances at Jean-Jack, feeling his beast rise in irritation at the neonate deigning to greet the prince before Lucius.

For the second time this night Lucius bites back the urge to strike the idiot. But, as this domain seemed incapable of following the Prince’s simple desire to keep its collective mouths shut about Reading, any recompense would have to wait until after Jean-Jack’s social station had been clarified.

“Prince Leroux!” Lucius says instead, his face lighting up at the Prince’s attendance. He moves from examining the titles of the books stacked about the place, to bow to the prince in greeting. “How wonderful that you would choose to join us! Neonate Rhona, fetch a chair if you would.”

“It is true Prince Leroux. So little is known about you! Well, other than that you achieved the impossible and succeeded where Gwen Levenson, Augustus Actavious, and Francis Beauclair all failed and tamed this domain! Please join us, I would never ask for you to share with us your secret, but I do look forward to knowing you less biblically.”

“In truth, I would name Neonate Amelia of your clan” Lucius lied. “No one in the domain knows where she heralds from, her lineage or what she looks like without obfuscate for that matter.”

“Would you like to join us in this game? If so, who would you name?”

Rhona had been getting carried away in observing each little detail and curio left about this room full of memories, but was brought sharply back down to earth the moment she heard the voice of the Prince. She acutely remembered the last time she had the honour to be reclining on a sofa with the Prince's company, and wondered if perhaps an elder would start a strip tease routine this time as well. She certainly hoped so.

Snapping to attention, she reacted almost instinctually to the elder's command, though she fought to keep her smile full and unbroken for that briefest of moments.

There are times you might need to be someone's pet to thrive in the Camarilla. There is no shame in survival.

Quickly choosing the more comfortable and luscious armchair she can see, Rhona heaves it over the circle of kindred, before giving the Prince a deep elegant bow. It's clear she's probably stronger than the average denizen of the city, but is no user of potence by any stretch.

"Your Grace, it is as always, a delight." Rue beams as she speaks softly, making sure not to interrupt Lucius before going back to reclaim her lounging spot on her own sofa.
