It's a long way down to the bottom of the river

Be it The Theatre Royal, The Ceryneian Theatre, or any of the smaller establishments serving to entertain the good people of Bath, here lies the feeling of sanctuary - of focus - and a tremble in the ether as the curtains rise, the music begins. Women touch themselves up - cosmetically - and their features glow and gleam: mouths like scimitars in claret, plum, sienna, smokily shadowed eyes with diamond hints and sapphire glints. Candle flames paint flickering reflections across the crystal chandeliers. Inside a Theatre is something pure, something beyond the Beast, immortalised in story and dance, the hard-won result of all the satirically polite personas, the rehearsals, the strict agents, the money and fame, the spotlights, the sweat, the pain and the blisters, the heartache and a final real catch-of-breath victory. Here is the playground of the performers.

Christine looks crestfallen.

"...oh, I know... and you are so very kind to be offering me your assistance with this! I do apologise if I am struggling with what you're asking... but I know so little about the nature of the soul... now if it were a sonata I could deconstruct it with ease!"

She sighs again.

"...perhaps if you could tell me a bit more about the nature of the soul, then I might understand better and be better able to answer your questions properly..."

Epi smiles and looks at Albert

"This is where Elder Campion takes over from me for a while."

Campion looks upward for a moment to compose his thoughts about the best way to approach this question...

"The nature of the soul is something that has been debated for the last 25 centuries, and to my knowledge no one has come up with a satisfactory answer yet. However in this case I think it would be helpful if you could tell us a little more about the 'voice' itself, can you describe how it sounds to you? Take you're time, there is no need to rush as we have all night to understand this."

Christine looks frustrated, chewing on her lower lip.

"...it's... it's not a voice! ... it's... it's another soul!"

She hums to herself for a moment, are you... are you... going to the tree... then, calmer:

"...I am a Trinity... three in one and one in three... Bleithneyria, Christine, Fionnuisce... three parts of one soul... three souls in one body..."

She looks agitated, wringing her hands.

"...but this... this interloper! I can feel it.... worming its way into my soul.... it's becoming part of my soul... and I want it gone! Gone! Do you understand? It's tainting me, driving my madness down darker paths! It's hurting me! I need to... I need to pull it away... pull it away from me and push it out... burn it in fire... burn... burn... it needs to burn..."

Madness flares, and she sings:

"...are you, are you.... coming to the tree... they strung up a man... they say who murdered three... Strange things did happen here... no stranger would it be... if we met at midnight... in the hanging tree..."

"Ah! I see. Forgive me, I was unaware of your nature and the way this is affecting you. It's not something that communicates with you as a seperate entity, but it's trying to become part of you and your trinity?"

Epi quickly acts by getting up and crouching next to her chair putting her hand on Christine's.

"Calm yourself Miss Daye, we are going to do everything we can to help you, you have my word" she looks up into Christine's eyes then puts the side of her curled finger gently under Christine's chin to lift her eyes to hers and smiles, "then when your trilogy are back together and alone in there and you want that soul to burn then I will use my own fire to do it, but to understand it we have many questions, do you think you can handle a few more or would you like to break for a while?"

Christine flinches back at Epi's unexpected touch, on her gloved hand, on her chin. Her fangs lengthen as she snarls:

"Don't touch me."

But it's not her voice. It's a man's voice, a deep and grating bass, lower than Campion's own tones, and with an accent that those who have been will recognise as Egyptian.

Christine stands up quickly and backs away from Epi. Her gaze is blank, her movements decisive, and she picks up her song again.

"...are you, are you.... coming to the tree... where dead man called out... for his love to flee.... strange things did happen here... no stranger would it be... if we met at midnight... in the hanging tree..."

At the words of the masculine voice Epi drops her hands and flinches backwards slightly in fear, in the next second fire fills her eyes and she stands up slowly to a tall, strong and powerful stature, taking advantage of this unusual reaction to her gentle and concerned gesture.

Her voice is steady, stern and serious, it is clear that there is power within the young maiden.

"Ahhh, now that I have your attention, would you care to tell me to whom I am addressing?"

Capion looks intently at Christine as she moves away, he's studying her movements and catalogueing them against what he's seen of Christine before trying to get a sense of what is going on within the young womans mind and body.

At that precise moment, Erika enters the room. She is wearing the face of the smokey eyed beauty that she favours these days. She takes stock of everyone's faces, and sits down.

"My apologies for the lateness, I was distracted by a stagehand who was rather determined to find out more about a visitor we had the other evening. I fear the poor lad is quite smitten with her and wouldn't let me go. Still, it appears that you are settled, and the...ah...situation is apparent."

She gives Christine a long, appraising look.

"Ah, my dear, I see you've introduced yourself."
She is the sunlight of my sunless nights.
