Remembered Pleasures (Open to all)

Royal Victoria Park was named after Queen Victoria, who wrote in her journal "The people are really too kind to me." It's a lush and sprawling park of deep green gardens, bright flowers and ancient trees - truly, a botanist's dream. To take a leisurely stroll through its unique fields is to know peace; to sit a while upon a beautifully carved bench or even read a book beside a willow tree, my, what better a time could be had? At night the gentle gas lamps burn an eerily hypnotic blue, making the entire place quite fantastical. There are rock pools and ivy-covered awnings, hidden passages between thick hedges and even a ring of old trees.

"I hope that the oral traditions of our Clan continue forever into the nights until the end of time, for indeed I agree that tales should be made to fit the culture and place they are being told in. But the core of the story, the basic facts that all agree on should be preserved on paper."

He looks up into the night sky and breathes deeply.

"I agree with your point, both camps have valid arguments and as someone who is both an academic and has been taught the tradition of storytelling by their Sire, I can see both sides."

He glances over

"Admittedly, there are some among my colleagues who demand that they along receive the recognition for their work. I find myself more believing in a communal effort to bring knowledge to the world, if that involves using theories and work from another colleague then go ahead. Ultimately the acquisition of understanding is more important than who it was that discovered that understanding."

His face softens

"Another reason to count myself lucky that my sire was only an Ancillae, and still relatively connected to humanity. She taught me well and then let me go."

He glances around at the deserted park.

"Are you able to take on the form of a bird or beast Caru?"

She laughs good-naturedly. "If you say so."

Caru follows his gaze to the stars. "I couldn't agree more. I appreciate that most people want to be famous for their work, or at least be cherished for the beauty they've put out. It's a glorious thing, being known to have given so many people light. Be it in hard 'facts' or fiction."

"Hmm? Oh, yes. Would you like to fly?"

He smiles

"It would be my pleasure."

Inclining his head to her and glancing once more around the park to ensure nobody is watching, Regulus's form shrinks. Feathers sprout from his skin and his clothes seem to meld into the jet black of a large Raven. One beady eye turns on Caru before he takes to the sky, circling overhead and waits for her to join him.

"It would cover more ground; perhaps Langdon is out tonight, and we'll spot her."

Caru leaps, the balls of her feet springing off the plush midsummer grass as her toes curl. A falcon shoots up after the raven, and the two vanish.
